A bit late in the coming, but I’ve finally got around to reviewing Madrasi, an Indian restaurant in the Sandyford area of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. It’s on the way home for me from Jesmond Metro, so I’m surprised it’s taken so long for me to sample it (see also: Caffe Z)! I ended up getting a takeaway on a Friday night, which is what this review is based on.
The food
The food was incredible, even in takeaway form; it was certainly on a par with The Capital on Claypath in Durham which was my previous favourite! The portions were large, but not insane (whether that’s good or bad, I’ll leave to you).
Service
I found Madrasi staff incredibly patient, courteous and friendly (a stark comparison to Nino’s in The Gate), as well as knowledgeable about the food they were serving. As it was a Friday night, I had to wait for the food as they were busy, but the prompt service was amazing: I was offered a beer (out of honour I accepted, obviously) whilst I waited, and was updated regularly on how long the food was likely to be.
