Magento 1.4 Themes Design

Magento 1.4 Themes Design book by Richard Carter
Magento 1.4 Themes Design is the fourth book I’ve written. It’s an update of my second book, Magento 1.3 Themes Design, for the newer version of Magento, the open source ecommerce platform. To paraphrase myself:

[Magento’s] architecture means that it can be difficult to pin down exactly what you need to edit to effect an element, so Magento Theme Design is designed to help make the reader’s life easier.

That’s what Magento 1.4 Themes Design aims to do: make it easier for you, the reader, to customise as many elements of your Magento theme as possible. Don’t take my word for it; read reviews on goodread.com too! As a commercially experienced Magento consultant, I aimed to write the book to be as much use as possible to professional themers who want to find their way with Magento.

If you’ve tried looking at Magento’s documentation before, you’ll know that it can often be outdated and even just plain wrong, so as I was writing the book I went to great lengths to double and even triple-check what really works!

Updated book for Magento 1.4

There were quite a number of changes between versions 1.3 and 1.4 of Magento which affected theming, so the book was rewritten almost entirely from scratch for the new version of Magento. I’ve also added a large amount of entirely new content to cover frequently asked questions about Magento theming.
