The Centurion, Newcastle: pub!

29 September 2008

Working the occasional late evening, I often end up waiting for trains, which led me to discover The Centurion in Newcastle Central Station.

The Centurion is no ordinary train station pub: it has character (including an impressive ceiling), a good range of ales including guest ales which change frequently, and the staff are (usually) pretty friendly.

The Centurion: downside

The only downsides (in my view) are it gets very busy at weekends – though it’s easy to see why. Also, if a football/cricket/rugby match is on (the Centurion has the biggest screen for sports in Newcastle, apparently), you can’t hear yourself think: not ideal for a ‘quiet drink’.
